What is Bohemian Style? (30 Examples)

 , updated on
Bohemian style is a rebel aesthetic that is traditional, unfinished, wild and completely unrefined. This is the oldest of all counter-cultures that has a history going back more than 220 years. The original Bohemians were French artists who had lost their royal patrons following the French Revolution of 1789-1799. These artists began living a cultured existence that was nonetheless unfashionable, impromptu, wild and disordered. The public compared their nomadic colorful lifestyle to the Romani people who were incorrectly believed to have come from Bohemia. As a modern aesthetic, Bohemian style celebrates individualism, nature, imperfection and historical lifestyles. It is youthful yet as old as history itself. It is otherworldly.
